Director, Health Equity

ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer

This is a Full-time position in Washington, WA posted March 10, 2021.

n n nn ZERO is seeking a professional, detail-oriented, highly organized, intuitive, and proactive individual to promote prostate cancer awareness and resources in a new role titled Director, Health Equity.

This role aims to address racial disparities in prostate cancer, primarily focusing on the twofold incidence and mortality rate experienced by Black men (when compared to white men).

In this role, the ideal candidate will lead ZERO’s health equity efforts within the organization and with external stakeholders and partners.

This role is responsible for working with ZERO’s leadership team, Chapters, healthcare providers, sponsors, and the prostate cancer community to design and implement organizational-wide health equity initiatives focused on improving health outcomes for the most high-risk individuals and their families.

Through these efforts, ZERO will become a trusted leader in health equity, diversity, and inclusion by providing culturally competent programs and services aimed at decreasing disparities.  nn nn Primary responsibilities will include but aren’t limited to: nn Lead the design and implementation of a health equity framework into ZERO’s patient support and program portfolio, with a special focus on Black men and their families.

Monitor the latest prostate cancer science, trends, emerging issues, and best practices for advancing health equity strategies.

Amplify the equity narrative, develop and execute plans, identify measurable outcomes, and manage resources and relationships to successfully execute health equity goals.

Conduct outreach to establish and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g.

health care, public health, non-profit, and government agencies).

Analyze quantitative and qualitative data through a racial equity lens in order to identify and track disparities and make programmatic recommendations.  Monitor and track community engagement goals and integrate reporting metrics with program benchmarking.

Translate best practice community-based research into programs, initiatives and partnerships that promote access to care and reduce health disparities.

Position ZERO as a trusted leader in health equity, diversity, and inclusion through outreach, appearances, and other efforts within the prostate cancer community.

Facilitate a process to embed health equity across ZERO so that health equity becomes a greater part of the practice, process, action, innovation, and organizational performance and outcomes.

Collaborate in close coordination with other organizational teams to direct the assessment and design of programmatic communications strategies, tactics, and public awareness campaigns designed to meet health equity goals.

Serve as a racial and health equity spokesperson for ZERO, including with media, policymaking bodies, partner organizations, and in local and national forums.

nn Skills and Qualifications: nn A master’s degree in public health, health education, social work, community development, planning, public administration, health policy, or a similar field is preferred.

At least five years of directly related experience championing health equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, preferably in the healthcare, field organizing, campaign, or not-for-profit space.

A strong racial justice perspective and demonstrated understanding of health equity and the structural drivers of health that impact marginalized communities.

Strong professional communication skills.

Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities.

Team player who can collaborate and communicate clearly across teams.

nn This role will report to the Vice President, Patient Programs & Education, and work closely with ZERO’s Prostate Cancer Racial Disparities Task Force to build and develop ZERO’s health and racial disparities efforts.

This first-time role is crucial in supporting ZERO’s mission and is expected to make an immediate impact.  nn nn This position can be based remotely or at ZERO’s national headquarters in the D.C.

area once the office reopens in late 2021.
