The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington is seeking a candidate for full-time academic psychology position as Behavioral Health Support Specialist Workforce Director.

The appointment term is 12 months.

The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without Tenure due to funding (WOT) in the clinician-teacher pathway.

Rank will be determined commensurate with experience and qualifications.

We anticipate the position to have a start date of August 1, 2021.

Department faculty members provide clinical services and teach at health care facilities in the Puget Sound area and at several rural locations in the WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho).

The department also has a robust research portfolio nearly $35 M annually in sponsored projects.

Educational programs include a required medical student clerkship for 240 medical students per year at 30 sites across the WWAMI region, a nationally competitive psychiatry residency with more than 70 psychiatry residents in Seattle and in two regional residency tracks in Idaho and Montana, subspecialty fellowships in addiction, child and adolescent, consultation-liaison, and geriatric psychiatry, a nationally renowned scientist-practitioner psychology internship program, and post-doctoral clinical and research fellowships. 

The successful candidate will be based at the AIMS Center on the University of Washington Campus, Seattle, Washington.

The successful candidate will develop a program to support brief, evidence-based psychosocial interventions in non-mental health settings with a variety of provider types.

As part of the Integrated Care Training Program (ICTP), whose mission is to improve the health of Washingtonians by preparing a workforce to advance effective, integrated behavioral health care, this position will lead the ongoing development of our baccalaureate-level Behavioral Health Support Specialist program. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to experience training practitioners for work in primary care settings or other nontraditional mental health settings (e.g., school-based health). This program provides training for a bachelor’s level mental health providers and other workforce development by adopting a stepped care approach to behavioral healthcare and delivery of evidence-based psychosocial interventions.

Duties for this position include collaborating with diverse teams within ICTP, the AIMS Center, the department, and across the state to develop policy, deliver training, oversee implementation and evaluate the impact of a baccalaureate-level Behavioral Health Support Specialist program.

Required qualifications include:
PhD or foreign equivalent in education, public health, social work, or psychology Behavioral health clinician with experience delivering evidence-based psychosocial interventions Strong background in government, state, and local policy work concerning evidence-based interventions.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, behavioral intervention expertise.

Experience in evaluation of training and core competency efforts Experience in cultivating support at the state and national level regarding training and credentialing.

A track record of establishing collaborative, sustained partnerships with county, state or federal level policy groups.
