n nJOB SUMMARY:nUnder the general supervision of a Dentist in a practice care setting, assists the dentist in providing dental treatment.

Follows and supports the CARE model for patient experience.n nPRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:nResponsible for regular maintenance of high speed and low speed handpieces.nCollects and records patient health histories.nPatient management during dental procedures, monitors patient when N20 is being used.nInstrument transfer 4 handed dentistry while following sterile/OSHA procedures.nDental procedure isolation techniques.nPrepares dental materials, cements, composite, impression materials, etc.nAnticipates all of doctor’s needs.nEnsures operatory is set up and broken down properly.nConducts maintenance of all equipment; sterilizers, ultrasonic, flush lines, clean/replace traps.nScans reception room for patients.nAssumes responsibility for the upkeep of the dental operatory and equipment.nPerforms routine cleaning and maintenance of assigned operatory and for assigned equipment.nMaintain a stocked and clean operatory.

Assist in updating and maintaining patient dental records to include Ortho and Perio charting as directed.nPrevention and management of dental medical emergencies.nInventory control and management.nExpose and develop radiographs while always using good radiation hygiene.nEnsures all instruments are cleaned and sterilized/disinfected to meet OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.nEnsures Dental treatment room is properly disinfected.nExplain post-operative care.nAssist with Front Desk duties as assigned.nAssist with Specialty Doctors.nAssist with training future Dental Assistant I employees.nFabricate 1-4 unit temporaries.nFollow lab case management process.nConduct follow up calls on extensive treatments and report back to dentist.nAttend and participate in team meetings.nOther duties as assigned.n nPERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:nHigh standards for integrity, honesty, professionalism, and work ethic.nCommitment to service excellence.nAbility to work independently while demonstrating excellent organization and follow through.nDemonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.nAbility and willingness to move with purpose and a strong sense of urgency.nSelf-motivated, positive, and enthusiastic.nSelf
– starter with a strong desire to exceed expectations and capable of supporting a team to achieve successful results.nMaintains confidentiality discretion.nAbility to effectively work in collaboration with others to achieve business objectives.nWilling to grow and be challenged.n nJOB QUALIFICATIONS:nHigh School Diploma or GED.nMinimum of 2 years experience.nCertification in Dental Assisting preferred or as required by state.nDental Assistant License as required by state.nCurrent CPR, BLS or PALS required.nRadiology certified as required by state.nMaintains Continuing Education (CE) as required by state.nNitrous certificate preferred or as required by state.nPit and fissure sealant certificate preferred or as required by state.nKnowledge of insurance and treatment plans.nDemonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.nFor states that have advanced certifications for expanded functions, at least one certification will be required.

Examples include: EFDA, EFODA, EFOSA, etc.n nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:nWork involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and or loud noises.nModerate Physical activity; requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.

Sitting for extended periods of time.nWill work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.nWork Environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.n nThe specific statements shown in each section of this description are not intended to be all-inclusive.
