Medical Technologist for Hospital Stat Lab

This is a Contract position in Olalla, WA posted November 30, 2020.

Perform all routine and complex analyses in assigned areas, applying knowledge of techniques, principles, quality control, theory and instrumentation. Apply knowledge of: test interdependency and physiological conditions affecting test results, critical result limits, normal ranges and/or toxic or therapeutic ranges, to ensure accuracy. Recognize, troubleshoot and initiate corrective action for problems in a timely manner. Carry out supervisor’s directives. Act in the best interests of patient care and LabCorp.PUBLIC RELATIONS: Must be able to communicate concisely, accurately, and effectively in both written and verbal communication using the English language. Must communicate on a continual basis with patients, physicians, clients and other laboratory personnel. Must maintain a working relationship with lab management and promote the laboratory image in dealings with patients, clients, or the general public. Courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and consideration are extremely important and professional discretion is required. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Assumes responsibility and accountability for accurate work. Performs all routine analyses in assigned areas with understanding of techniques, principles, theory, instruments, and quality control with the assistance of a Medical Technologist as needed. Recognizes interdependency of tests and has knowledge of physiological conditions affecting test results; correlates results which are similarly affected by common physiological conditions, and makes decisions regarding the appropriateness of results as they relate or compare to each other with the assistance of a Medical Technologist as needed. Knows normal ranges and/or toxic or therapeutic ranges for all tests assigned or is familiar with reference sources where the information is available. Demonstrates such knowledge if called upon to discuss a case with a pathologist, supervisor or physician. Knows critical result limits and responds immediately according to procedure. Applies technical knowledge to practical situations, can troubleshoot and make appropriate, accurate decisions within a reasonable time frame. Recognizes technical problems as they occur and carries out instructions from supervisor for instrument or method problem solving, and/or makes an attempt to solve the problem independently. Displays a pleasant, courteous, professional attitude when answering phones. Maintains a safe and clean work environment at all times. Attends all safety training classes and conforms to company safety guidelines and requirements. Conforms to established and new procedures and policies instituted by the company. Remains flexible with regard to work schedule as staffing requirements dictate. Participates in training new employees/students in the department. Adheres to, and carries out, all assigned quality control policies and procedures. Takes action when QC is out. Reports unresolved QC problems to supervisor. Completes clerical work such as recording QC documents, logging in specimens, using computerized database. Performs instrument maintenance as assigned. Assists with inventory and ordering as assigned. Recognizes problems. Seeks assistance of supervisor, assistant supervisor for problem solving. Participates in special projects as assigned. Performs work in the most economical and efficient manner in terms of time and materials. Completes work within regular shift hours. Plans and organizes workload efficiently. SAFETY: Can locate fire and safety equipment (e.g. gloves, goggles, blankets, spill material, extinguishers) within the laboratory, and knows their appropriate use. Reads and initials the Safety Manual yearly. Completes annual safety training. CONTINUING EDUCATION:1. Attends applicable in-service and continuing education courses to keep current with advances in the field of clinical laboratory science. Arranges time off with supervisor. 2. Gives in-service lectures if requested. 3. Attends yearly compliance training program.Requirements Must be a MT (ASCP) or equivalent. Experience with automated instrumentation and manual testing in hematology, chemistry and/or microbiology desirable. Ability to express self concisely, accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact positively with clients, physicians and all staff. Experience requirements may vary by department.  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Manual dexterity for use of clinical laboratory equipment, specimen handling and computer data entry; visual acuity to read specimen information from requisitions and computer screens. Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time, some moderate lifting (40lbs) is occasionally required. Ability to use fingers, wrists, and hands for use of keyboards, handling of caustic and/or corrosive agents, and glassware. Ability to work in close environment with others. Must have ability to work efficiently in stressful environment and be able to adapt to change. Activities include frequent contact with toxic chemicals and infectious body substances.Shift 3ScheduleSaturday – Tuesday 10:00pm – 8:30am
