Nurse Practitioner – Hematology/Oncology – GI Oncology

Job Number: 210865 Department: Hematology And Oncology Hours: 40 hoursVirginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner to join our team.

The ARNP will join the GI Oncology team and see patients in our downtown Seattle location.

Our GI medical oncology staff works collaboratively with the multispecialty and multidisciplinary care team to develop and deliver the best treatment plans for GI malignancies.

The GI Oncology team is supported by an exceptional group of Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Nutritionists and support staff.

As a member of our team, you will contribute to the strength of our Team Medicine approach to collaborative medicine.

You will also help to further our commitment to continuous improvement through our Virginia Mason Production System, and our philosophy of empowering you to facilitate real change in the delivery of care. The oncology nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse.

(Examples of Duties: this list is not all inclusive). * Helps with all aspects of patient care, including the establishment and maintenance of strong provider-patient relationships, evidence-based patient teaching and coaching, establishment and maintenance of strong collaborative relationships within the healthcare team, and ensuring the quality of healthcare practice. * Performs complete and episodic health histories and physical exams, in order to identify existing or potential health problems.

This position will partner with the GI Oncologists to support patients who are on active treatment and cancer surveillance.

A significant portion of this role is symptom management. * Initiates and implements an individualized nursing and medical plan of care in collaboration with physicians, nurses and ancillary personnel. * Initiates appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, medical and nursing actions in conjunction with physician. * Provides follow-up care including acute and routine examinations.

Assesses progress, identifies problems, initiates preventive measures, and recognizes emergent problems. * Monitors and adjusts patient medication including adequate pain control.

Implements aggressive nutritional therapies.

Orders intravenous therapy for patients on chemotherapeutic agents.

*Qualifications:**Nurse Practitioner* * Washington State Registered Nurse License and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License are required for this job. * Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers may be required depending on the position, as well as prescriptive authority.
