Orthodontic Dental Assistant II

This is a Contract position in Bay Center, WA posted November 3, 2020.

REPORTS TO: Regional Orthodontic Ops Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of an Orthodontist in a practice care setting, assists the doctor in providing Orthodontic treatments. Follows and supports the CARE model for patient experience.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to work under limited supervision, following the provider’s directives of treatment.
Maintain accurate records, including treatment notes, treatment progress, and communication between the provider and patient/parent.
Take intraoral and extraoral photos, then mount digitally into system.
Take x-rays – pano, ceph, CBCT and the occasional PAs.
Take impressions using alginate, PVS, wax bite, blue bite, etc. and pour up in stone as required.
Set up appropriately for all orthodontic procedures.
Learn the wire sequence and prepare for upgrades as the provider diagnoses them.
Perform 4 handed dentistry as needed.
Ability to effectively educate patients/parents on treatment and explain the procedures which includes oral hygiene instructions.
Remove ties, wires, brackets, and springs independently.
Prep the teeth for bracket placement, with the ability to keep the field dry.
Fabricate in house retainers.
Work with other providers as needed to treatment plan/maintain patients overall oral health.
Conduct maintenance of all equipment as needed: sterilizers, ultrasonic, flush lines, clean/replace traps.
Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of operatory, instruments, and supplies.
Monitor stock and compile order lists.
Ensure all instruments are cleaned and sterilized/disinfected to meet OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.
Assist with front office duties as assigned.
Monitor schedule and maintain patient flow, which may include verifying appointments, ensuring length and treatment plans align.
Review and confirm all lab cases will be present prior to patient’s arrival.
Conduct follow up calls on extensive treatments and report back.
Attend and participate in team meetings and company trainings.
Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to travel to regional practice locations on a consistent basis, or as required
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of 2 years experience, preferably in an Orthodontic setting
For states that have advanced Orthodontic certifications for expanded functions, at least one certification will be required; example includes EFODA (Expanded Function Orthodontic Dental Assistant)
Current CPR, BLS or PALS required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Radiology certified as required by state.
Maintains Continuing Education (CE) as required by state.
Nitrous certificate preferred or as required by state.
Knowledge of insurance and treatment plans.
Ability to work Monday through Friday and occasional weekends as scheduled and based on business need.
Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel using personal car to work at other practices as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and or loud noises.
Moderate Physical activity; requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day. Sitting for extended periods of time.
Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
Work Environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
