Job DescriptionRegistered Nurse~ Surgical Services ~ Jefferson Healthcare, Port Townsend, WARN Job OverviewThe RN is responsible for providing nursing care adapted to the individual patient needs based on the nursing process which includes: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. He or she promotes continuity of care to ensure that patient needs and expected outcomes are met. The RN must be capable of functioning as a member of the team and perform duties as necessary. This includes delegating and supervising support nursing staff that participates in the provision of care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Collects data pertinent to the patient’s health or the situation. Completes nursing history and physical assessment upon admission Reassesses the patient during shift as patient’s condition requires. Assesses subtle changes in patient status, anticipates problems before they occur, and implements appropriate measures Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients whose needs range from uncomplicated to complex and can be rapidly changing. Specialty areas may require additional experience.Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff membersCollaborates with all members of the interdisciplinary team to improve care delivered to assigned patientsOperates unit specific equipment and procedures as outlined in defined competenciesInitiates, plans and participates in patient and family teaching, and provides professional nursing care within the legal scope of practice and standards developed by the profession, Nurse Practice Act and regulatory agencies Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation. Utilizes the physicians’ history and physical progress notes and notes from other specialties: Pharmacy, Respiratory Care, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, etc., to plan care. Implements the identified plan of care. Ensures that the plan of care is coordinated to achieve the desired outcomes. Teaches the patient about his or her illness and promotes health. Consults other nursing experts or the patient’s physician as needed. Makes age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs. Evaluates progress toward attainment of patient clinical outcomes and adjusts the plan accordingly.Initiates a discharge assessment on admission and works as needed with Case Management to develop a discharge plan for assigned patients. Assists case manager with implementation of plan.Demonstrates a caring, compassionate approach to patient/family, functioning as a patient/family advocateParticipates in case conferences, rounds, etc. to communicate the plan of care, interventions utilized and the outcomes achievedEvaluates one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Assumes personal responsibility for professional development and contributes to the professional/learning environment of the unit. Maintains required competenciesSECONDARY FUNCTIONS:Assists in the orientation of new staff members and studentsOther duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceCurrent Washington state RN license in good standingCurrent CPR/BLS (Healthcare Provider) required and ACLS may be required Advanced current certification required or preferred for specific patient population: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nurse Care Course (TNCC), American Nurses Assoc. Med-Surg., Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Certified Nurse Operation Room (CNOR), Mother-Friendly, Wound Care, Procedural Sedation, Chemotherapy, Anti-coagulation therapy management, Oncology, Hospice and Palliative Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred Specialty areas may require additional experience, certifications and licenses2 years Endoscopy or OR experience, PACU experience preferredScheduleFTE:0.0 (Per Diem), up to 16 hours/week.Shifts: Day shifts, 8 hours.Days: Monday – FridayPositions available:1Job Posted by ApplicantPro
