What are we looking for in a School-based Therapist?

School-based Therapists work within their assigned primary or secondary schools to provide evaluations, brief treatment, and other interventions for students. Using evidence-based practices, School-based Therapists help students develop the skills needed to manage their mental health concerns more effectively. School-based therapists will coordinate with teachers, parents & families, school administration, and other service providers to ensure that each student is receiving the interventions and treatment they need. Clinical supervision and training in evidence-based practices are provided as part of this position. Prior experience working with children and adolescents is required for this role. This is a year-round position serving the Sunnyside School District; regular travel between the schools and our Sunnyside clinic is to be expected.

School-based Therapist duties may include:

  • completing mental health assessments on each referred student
  • providing individual & family therapy and facilitating behavioral health groups
  • collaborating with each student to create an individualized treatment plan
  • assessing students for safety and risk to self or others and taking appropriate crisis intervention measures when indicated
  • coordinating with teachers, guidance counselors, families, school administrators, and community service providers for case management and maintaining continuity of care
  • thorough and timely completion of required clinical documentation

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field
  • Prior experience working with youth and adolescents required
