DescriptionZymeworks is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development and commercialization of next-generation bispecific and multifunctional biotherapeutics, initially focused on the treatment of cancer.

Zymeworks’ suite of complementary therapeutic platforms and its fully-integrated drug development engine provide the flexibility and compatibility to precisely engineer and develop highly-differentiated product candidates.About the PositionThe develops and implements strategy that supports Zymeworks’ investigational products and drives new product development.

This role will lead the design and implementation of medical strategies while providing thought leadership and advising on tactical execution for medical publication planning, medical education, medical information system development, field medical liaisons, and medical communication.

This role will work closely with clinical, communications, regulatory and commercial to understand current medical practice in the diseases of interest and determine what is needed to address unmet needs from the clinical and health economics perspective.This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer and will be based in Seattle, WA.Key Responsibilities* Lead and grow the medical and scientific affairs department through attracting, retaining and developing talent needed to execute Zymeworks’ strategic objectives.* Develop strategic vision for function and drive implementation through collaboration with internal partners and across products.* Provide cutting-edge thought leadership at all levels of the company, and externally.* Work closely with commercial, clinical development and regulatory affairs to design and implement launch strategies and tactics and on life-cycle planning.* Assess and advise on product opportunities.* Lead and oversee scientific efforts at relevant medical and scientific conferences to support sponsored speakers and presenters, ensure success of publication/communication goals, and participate in the collection and reporting of competitive intelligence within company guidelines.* Direct publication activities ensuring compliance with Good Publication Practices (GPP) and applicable regulations.* Oversee the identification of data and/or resource gaps and needs, perform project risk analysis, and implement solutions.* Gain and provide medical insights to and work closely with the commercial organization to bring medical perspective to commercial strategies and tactics, collaborating on most efficient and effective ways for field forces to work together.* Provide strategic input to the clinical development and commercial organizations on post-marketing clinical development.* Ensure proper strategic input, alignment and oversight of IST committee (Investigator Sponsored Trials), publication plans, KOL/advisory board plans, and continuing medical education plans to optimize the product profile by building product awareness and gaining strategic insights for marketing and development strategy.* Cultivate research relationships with key research centers in the United States and Canada.* Collaborate with senior leaders in commercial and clinical to plan, execute, and evaluate launch.* Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards.Qualifications and Education* MD with experience in the area of oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory.* Minimum 15 years of experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare organization in medical affairs, including a minimum of 8 years pharmaceuticals industry experience in a Medical Affairs leadership role.* An equivalent combination for education and experience may be considered.* Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing team and to mentor team members at all levels.* Proven success with launch working in highly matrixed, cross-functional environment requiring excellent cross functional collaboration to achieve successful results.* Successful oversight of and involvement in phase 4 post-marketing study planning and investigator-initiated studies* Deep understanding of the underlying principles and practical application of health outcomes, quality standards, evidence-based medicine, disease management and related principles.* Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional and dynamic environment while achieving company objectives.* Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated cultural agility.* Embody and champion Zymeworks’ values: Innovate.
