SUMMARYThe Database Administration team members at BECU install, monitor, maintain and performance tune production and non-production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability.

We develop, implement and continually review database policies and procedures to ensure the security, integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying applications.The Database Engineer will maintain and deploy databases that meet the BECU standard for security, performance and HA/DR, monitor database performance and troubleshoot database issues.

They will also install and configure database software, consult with development teams on SQL and application design and works with the Systems team on database infrastructure tasks.RESPONSIBILITIES Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies and Information Protection requirements.Build, administer, maintain and support multiple instances of MS SQL Server 2008 thru 2014 and Oracle 11g.

Ensure databases are functioning at the highest level to ensure BECU applications availability.Lead escalated Tier 2-3 (moderate to high) database issues/needs through resolution/completion.

Ensure quality RCAs as needed, and address assigned remediation actions.Deploy and maintain database backup and recovery processes and HA/DR requirements based on BECU standards.

Lead database activities with DR/BC events or tests.Proactively manage the performance and stability of all production and internal database infrastructure.

Perform moderate to high complexity performance tuning.Create and maintain moderate to high written procedures for team members.Independently work enterprise projects or infrastructure projects.Develop moderate to high complexity scripts for database monitoring and to automate routine tasks using scripting languages like PowerShell.Plan, test and install moderate to high complexity upgrades/patches and database changes.

Support and implement DB technology roadmaps.Plan, test and install moderate to high complexity upgrades/patches and database changes.

Support and implement DB technology roadmaps.Perform additional duties as may be assigned.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline required, or equivalent work or educational experience.

Master’s degree preferred.Minimum 5 years of related experience required.Knowledge of Database Operating Systems
– Windows and Linux required.Experience with SQL Server 2008
– 2014 both on premise and hosted in Azure or other cloud provider required.Proficient with SQL DML & DDL and T-SQL required.Proven ability to troubleshoot database issues from code to hardware required.Experience with database administration concepts including backup and recovery, HA/DR, replication security and performance tuning required.Experience with related tools such as SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, OEM, ASM and others required.Knowledge of hardware, storage, RAID, and disk subsystems technologies as they pertain to DBMS systems preferred.Knowledge of scripting languages including Powershell, Perl and Bash shell scripting preferred.Familiar with Microsoft Enterprise technologies including Visual Studio, TFS, Systems Center preferred.Exposure to Oracle 11g and PL/SQL preferred.Occasional travel required.Be available on an on-call basis to respond to pending issues or problems arising during non-business hours and provide support and response.Proficient verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language.EEO Statement:BECU is an equal opportunity employer.
