Senior Software Engineer – Cloud Platform

Position Summary What you’ll do Our Containers team is part of the Global Technology Platform organization, delivering Walmart Cloud-Native Platform (WCNP) based on Kubernetes clusters. We are creating a seamless containerized app hosting experience for our app developers in multiple Public Cloud providers and Private Data Centers, as well as running the Edge program in Stores, Distribution Centers/Fulfillment Centers running WCNP on-prem. We use Kubernetes as the foundation of WCNP and build & develop Walmart ecosystem integrations on top. Besides having a quickly growing WCNP footprint in US-based businesses, we’re rapidly expanding internationally as well – so our platform adoption is happening on an unprecedented scale. Containers team is strategically located across multiple US locations in California, Arkansas, New Jersey and also internationally in India and Dublin, Ireland. This candidate will develop and support Walmart’s massive Kubernetes platform across public, private, and edge computing environments. Builds tooling to help 5,000 Walmart engineers take code from commit to production safely and quickly Builds tooling to help Walmart engineers unlock the power of cloud-native technologies and techniques (autoscaling, canary deployments, service mesh and more) Directs root cause analysis of critical business and production issues Leads and directs in large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects Leads the discovery phase of large projects to develop high-level design Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity Leads the work of other small groups of six to ten engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned Engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes. Supports business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives (for example, business strategy, technical feasibility, implementation alternatives); identifying short- and long-term solutions; and leading cross-functional partnership. You’ll sweep us off our feet if: Eager to work on the line between Software Engineering and Systems Engineering A track record of running large-scale systems Containerization experience especially Docker and Kubernetes Curious and a step ahead when it comes to software trends A natural leader who takes ownership of the team’s deliverables Willing to take responsibility for running a critical part of our infrastructure You’ll make an impact by: Designing Streamlined Platform – Design and develop Cloud platforms that provides Automation, CI/CD and observability tools to engineering teams, service layers and reusability across multiple areas. Gaining quick understanding of business problems and helping create a cohesive experience and solution will be impactive for the business. Recommending tech stack and tools – Recommend selection of technology stack and tools based on use cases and problem statements in the best interest of the associates and customers Building strategic relationships: Partner with peer teams to help design omni-presence solution across stores and online Operating with excellence – Set an example in managing code quality via reviews, coverage, automation for core application and peer teams. Contribute to technology backlog based on reviews. Preferred Qualifications: A minimum of 6 years of experience at a startup, mid- to a large-sized corporation is required. The candidate must possess good oral and written communication skills. The candidate must have advanced working knowledge in one of the following languages: Golang OR Java (preferred), or other modern programming languages. The candidate must have working knowledge in a container and cloud-native technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, other). Prior experience developing or working with Cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or OpenStack is highly desired.
