PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The Assistant Director ofUniversity Recreation, Marketing & Events provides primary leadership andsupport for allmarketing and communication for University Recreation, ensuring a cohesive andintentional brand identity.
Additionally, this position supports alldepartmental events created to meet theneeds of the Seattle University community, including students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
The Assistant Director must have a passionfor engaging students in meaningful learning outside of the classroom whileproviding a suite of high-quality programs and services that support the healthand wellness of the Seattle University community. This position is also a member of thedepartment’s leadership team and supports the department and university throughrepresentation on committees, working groups, task forces, and other rolesoutside of the normal day to day function as needed.
POSITION REPSONSIBILITIES
Program Administration
Lead, create, manage, and evaluate all departmental and program area marketing utilizing many mediums.
Mediums include but are not limited to: print and digital design, photo, video, social media and web.
Implement and execute a comprehensive departmental marketing plan that includes mission-based campaigns and initiatives.
Communicate the department’s areas of success through the presentation of data, assessment results, programmatic offerings and campaign results to the campus community and additional associations.
Plan and execute 2-5 departmental events per year that serve the Seattle University community and/or the UREC staff.
Create and implement a strategic plan for fund development that includes working with Alumni Relations and University Advancement in coordination with the Director.
Work with campus partners to support University recruitment and retention through presentations and campus events.
Compile and report data that serves to evaluate marketing efforts.
Ensure alignment with University Marketing and Communication guidelines.
Stay current with marketing trends to ensure strategies and campaigns are in alignment with best practices.
Serve as the UREC brand ambassador, telling the story and defining the experience of the department to necessary stakeholders.
Perform ongoing and period assessment of the UREC Marketing & Events program, staff, and services offered, with an annual report to the Director of University Recreation.
Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises a creative marketing team consisting of student managers that support the production of all marketing products.
Serve as the program director for Project Positive, an annual signature positive body image and self-appreciation campaign.
Provide managerial and leadership experiences, and additionally create and promote professional development opportunities for student and professional staff.
Assists with the management and implementation of departmental assessments.
Serves on the department Assessment Working Group to ensure alignment of marketing efforts.
Represents the department on division and university-wide committees, and coordinates initiatives as appropriate.
Be an active member in a national organization such as NIRSA, JASPA, ACPA, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, marketing, communications or a related field plus a minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in marketing, public relations or communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Experience with design and production of print and/or digital media.
Experience planning, creating, and/or managing special events or programs.
Experience with marketing through social media platforms (such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc) and demonstrated knowledge of when and how to use them effectively.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or similar software.
Detail oriented, highly organized individual who has the ability to multitask and the ability to deal with a variety of situations and people in a balanced way.
Strong computer, organization, and multimedia skills.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience with student or volunteer supervision, and leadership development or relevant experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentations and group facilitation.
Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED
Master’s degree in recreation administration, higher education/student affairs, marketing, communications, or a closely related discipline.
Two or more years of full-time professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting, with previous experience in marketing, events and budget oversight, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Experiencewith Campaign Monitor, TerminalFour or related software.
