SHIFT M-F / 4PM-1230 AMGeneral Summary: This position performs daily activities associated with the processing of laboratory specimens for diagnostic pathology under the direction of the Pathologists’ Assistant Supervisor and/or Pathologist Assistant. Receives specimens, documents the macroscopic descriptions and prepares low to moderate complexity surgical pathology specimens for processing.Minimum Qualifications: (knowledge, skills, and abilities)Associates degree in Laboratory Science with a minimum of 60 hours in science related course studies1 year of Histology and/or surgical gross experienceKnowledge of medical terminologyMeets all requirements as outlined in 1988 CLIA CFR 493.1489Strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environmentSelf-directedAbility to work in a team settingPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent training and experience3 years of histology and/or surgical gross experienceEssential Job Responsibilities:Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for Histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistant and/or pathologistMaintains cleanliness of grossing area and perform scheduled maintenanceMaintain orderly storage of surgical specimensPerformance Requirements:Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for Histologic processing, according to policies and procedures.Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labelingMaintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identificationGross specimens in direct view of the overhead camerasScan each specimen into Vantage software (if used) and print the associated bar coded cassettes for each caseRecord measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicableDescribe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned using voice recognition softwareInterprets physician instructions written on test requisition that is accompanying the specimensOrganize paperwork to pass on to HistologyMaintains PrintmatesEscalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistant and/or pathologistsInteract directly with Pathologists and/or Pathologist Assistants regarding gross dissection/description activities that require direct supervisionIdentify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the pathology supervisory, pathologist assistant, or pathologist directorMaintains cleanliness of grossing area and perform scheduled maintenanceKeep all work surfaces free of debris and clutterKeep all work surfaces clean with Microcide or Gross Room cleanerMaintain supplies needed for the gross room accessioning & processingComplete all associated paperwork (i.e. decal, ink, ultrasonic cleaner, etc.)Maintain orderly storage of surgical specimensOrganize specimens according to department policiesMental/Physical Requirements:Daily activity is 80% sitting and 20% walking or standing.Work Environment:Work is in a well-lighted laboratory environment.Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, needles or other sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motionsEEO Notification Incyte Diagnostics is an EOE, including disability/vetsIncyte Diagnostics is an EEO employer – M/F/Veteran/Disability/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
