Full-time Temporary Right of Way Landscape Maintenance Aide

This is a Contract position in Lacey, WA posted March 29, 2021.

BASIC PURPOSE: Under immediate or general supervision, individual performs a variety of maintenance duties in right-of-ways, medians, and roundabouts. This six month temporary position will work a 40-hour workweek. The work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday. This is an entry level landscape maintenance position. However, during employment with the City of Lacey, selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn skills related to the safe and efficient use of chainsaws, chippers, backpack sprayers, fertilizer distributors, pressure washers, synthetic field groomers, paint liners, power tools, mowers of various sizes, as well as the skills necessary to tow and back a trailer. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform a variety of right-of-way and streetscape maintenance duties to include mowing, edging, line trimming, tree planting and pruning, ornamental shrub pruning, annual flower maintenance, I.P.M., leaf and litter removal, blowing debris, weeding, graffiti removal, vandalism repair, and other tasks related to grounds maintenance. Individual will be responsible for their personal safety while in the field, as well as the safe use and maintenance of mowers and other power equipment. QUALIFICATIONS: Previous landscape maintenance experience preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have a High School diploma or G.E.D. Must pass a thorough background investigation. Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Must have a valid Washington State driver license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City’s insurance carrier. Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to adhere to work rules and guidelines. Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude.
