Job DescriptionOur client is an innovative genetic medicines company focused on creating a new class of non-viral gene therapy to provide durable, redosable treatments for people living with rare and prevalent diseases. The companys non-viral platform incorporates a proprietary, high-capacity DNA construct called closed-ended DNA, or ceDNA; a cell-targeted lipid nanoparticle delivery system or ctLNP; and an established, scalable capsid-free manufacturing process. The platform is designed to enable multi-year durability from a single dose of ceDNA and to allow titration and redosing if needed, and our scalable manufacturing process supports our mission to extend the reach of gene therapy to more people, living with more diseases, in more places around the world. The clients vision is to make the ravages of genetic disease as imaginary to the next generation as polio feels to children today.They are a thriving, collaborative, creative community of 120 people with diverse talents, beliefs, and experiences headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.Our client seeks an energetic, dedicated, and highly motivated team player to provide advanced support services and care for rats and mice (both transgenic and immunodeficient) and to perform dosing and sample collection for multiple types of in vivo studies, within a modified barrier vivarium. The individual hired will work closely with investigators to perform the in vivo studies and will also have responsibility for basic husbandry, facility upkeep, and maintenance. This role will contribute significantly to the research activities at the company. Weekend and holiday work will be requiredResponsibilitiesExecute in-vivo studies in rats and mice according to in-house IACUC protocols and interface with scientists regarding data collection, results, and analysisPerform basic injections (IP, SC, IV, PO, IM), as well as more advanced techniques including intravitreal injections, subretinal injections, and hydrodynamic IV injections in mice and ratsPerform anesthesia and analgesia of mice and rats and body weight measurements, blood collection, full-body perfusions, and general necropsyPerform in-vivo imaging using the IVIS Lumina imager.Perform daily husbandry of rats and mice under modified barrier conditions and document accordinglyMonitor and document animal facility conditions including temperature and humidity dailyPerform twice daily health monitoring of animals, document and report abnormal conditions to the supervisorReceive and house incoming animalsStock and receive incoming supplies for the animal facilityEuthanize animals as requiredAdhere to appropriate safety and bio containment proceduresAssist in training of new personnel for both basic husbandry and in-vivo techniquesAssist Associate Director with the implementation of the animal health monitoring program and with controlled substances documentation programAbility to work overtime hours on a rotating schedule which may include nights, weekends, and holidaysOther duties as assignedQualificationsBachelors Degree in a life sciences discipline or related experienceAt least 5 years of experience working with rats and mice and conducting in-vivo studies. Surgical experience and experience performing intravitreal and subretinal injections in mice and rats is a plusNo known lab animal allergiesAbility to lift, push, pull up to 50lbsAbility to stand for extended periods of timeWorking knowledge of Microsoft Word and ExcelStrong verbal and written English communication skills.
