Boeing?s Product & Services Safety (P&SS) organization is looking for Enterprise Safety Engineers (Level 2 and Level 3) to join our team in Everett, Washington. We are seeking an inspirational teammate to support the creation of a new organization called Enterprise Safety with the mission to establish a safety engineering function across the company and develop enduring product safety design practices to assure the safety, quality, integrity, and mission success of our products and services. Enterprise Safety will work with wider design, test, modifications and sustainment organizations within/across the business units to develop and put in place the appropriate policies, procedures, capabilities, skill competencies, tool suites (Model Based Systems Engineering or MBSE e. g.), standards and training supporting product/system safety consistent with Boeing?s Safety Management System (SMS), and industry best practices like ARP4761, ARP4754, and MIL-STD-882.

The successful applicant will be responsible for developing, integrating and supporting implementation of capabilities that ensure robust execution of product/system safety analyses and best practices. This includes benchmarking, developing and implementing model based tools and approaches to safety engineering, data analytics, and seeking out best practices within Boeing and throughout the industry. This person should be reliable, trustworthy, and accountable for completing assigned work, as well as open-minded and comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum teaming environment. This person will be willing to consider and investigate alternate proposals in support of a ?never fail? spirit.

Position Responsibilities:
Cataloging, synthesizing, and developing action plans for product safety lessons learned, pulled from across the enterprise
Defining system safety design practices for use across business units, including establishing D6 guidance. Design practices include those used for new design and existing fleet safety
Help establish System Safety University and develop training material to educate the wider engineering team on product safety fundamentals (FHAs (functional hazard assessments), FTAs (fault tree analysis), FMEAs (failure mode & effects analysis, Development Assurance, software safety, use of newly developed tools etc.)
Innovating and benchmarking new methods of ensuring product safety like STPA (System Theoretic Process Analysis)
Investigating MBSE tools to digitally connect, store, and integrate critical safety deliverables like Functional Hazards Assessments, Fault Trees and Cascading Effects Analyses
Establishing a broad enterprise wide Community of Excellence around Safety Engineering
Working across the enterprise to understand stakeholder needs and requirements, integrating and managing projects that align to Enterprise Safety Vision and Mission
Ensuring SMS goals are well understood in product safety Design Practices
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a ?U.S. Person? as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. ?U.S. Person? includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
1+ years of experience assisting with safety processes in engineering
2+ years of experience in project management
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience in systems design and/or systems analysis and/or systems integration
Experience with system safety analysis and guidelines such as ARP4761, ARP4754
Experience with unit fleet safety risk management processes like COSP (Continuous Operation Safety Process) and reporting requirements under FAA FAR Part 21
Experience with cascading effects analysis like Single & Multiple Failure, and Fault Trees
Experience with compliance to FAR Part 25.1309, and industry practices like ARP 4761 & MIL-STD-882
Systems Engineering experience in fundamentals like requirements validation/verification, functional integration, NxN, Phase A/B/C, and Concept of Operations
Experience with aerospace systems engineering together with the ability to visualize how information technology opportunities might be used to further the goals of the organization
Experience working with agile methodologies
Experience leading cross functional teams and complex projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Typical Education/Experience (Level 2):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Typical Education/Experience (Level 3):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
