Experienced Associate Flight Deck Design Engineer

This is a Full-time position in Medina, WA posted May 30, 2021.

Flight Deck Design is looking for an engaged and motivated experienced associate Flight Deck Design Engineer to join a team of highly skilled engineers that are passionate about working on the next generation Flight Deck for our Everett, Washington location.  

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact the design of our Flight Decks from initial design development, test, certification, delivery as well as solving production and in-service fleet issues. The Flight Deck Design team defines the cockpit environment for all Boeing Commercial aircraft. We integrate with Flight Crew Ops, Pilots and our customers to ensure we deliver best in class Flight Decks that improves safety and addresses the needs of the Flight Crew.

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use your leadership, creativity and problem solving skills to address a diverse range of engineering issues and fully integrate final design solutions. Engineers in this position are expected to independently work assignments, collaborate with teammates, and receive tasking from a lead engineer.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Identify problems, perform root cause corrective analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide support to the Factory and Flight Line to resolve emergent issues.
  • Assist in the development of the Interface Control Documents (ICD) and model the system logical data in the SLATE tool.
  • Assist in the development of digital and analog systems architecture taking consideration which data/bus formats (CAN, A664, A629, etc.) best supports program objectives and requirements and impacts on data reliability and integrity, fault trees, System Safety Analysis (SSA).
  • Responsible for all electrical aspects such as power loads and requirements on various electrical buses, circuit protection, switch contact ratings, functional schematics and wire diagrams.

Design Responsibilities:

  • Control Panels, Lightplates, Switches, Annunciators, Circuit Breakers and Equipment.
  • Flight Deck Area and Task Lighting.
  • Crew Seats (Pilot, Observer and Supernumerary).
  • Linings, Consoles, Stowage Dripshields and Insulation Blankets.
  • Installation of Misc. and Emergency Equipment (Fire Extinguishers, Crash Axe, etc).
  • Secure Door/Bulkhead and Flight Deck Access System.
  • HUD Installation.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a ?US Person? as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. ?US Person? includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):  

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. Bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years’ experience or a Master’s degree with 3 or more years’ experience.
  • 5+ year(s) of experience using excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with leaders and colleagues in a multi-skill operations environment.
  • 5+ year(s) of experience with managing equipment throughout the entire life cycle of product development from Requirement development/validation, Proposal (RFP/RFQ), Statement of Work (SOW, SCD), Program Gate Reviews (PDR/CDR,SO1 to SO4), Qualification Testing (DO-160) FAA Certification compliance, and delivery.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Design experience utilizing CATIA.
  • Knowledge of FAA and EASA certification processes.

Typical Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
