Field Engineers

Sterling and Wilson Solar Solutions, Inc.

This is a Contract position in Bickleton, WA posted August 19, 2021.

**Two positions are available. One in Bickleton WA. One in Arlington, OR.**

Job purpose

The Field Engineer is responsible for reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications and monitoring technical work instructions, including troubleshooting issues and problems with equipment or systems for a PV solar project. The Field Engineer will also support field management as the hands-on technical interface for operations.

Primary Duties

  • Support the technical aspects of construction stage site design and specification including design review of site plans, specifications, calculations, and studies.
  • Support the Subcontractor, Supplier, and Client Submittal, Transmittal, and Request-for-Information (“RFI”) processes.
  • Conduct independent quality control and quality assurance site inspections and ensure compliance with approved construction drawings.
  • Carry out research to identify problems and develop appropriate solutions and escalate critical items for support as required.
  • Support Construction Manager with basic project recordkeeping and reporting including but not limited to daily reports, material receipt forms, quality control documents, and commissioning documents.
  • Ability to perform or review IV Curve testing, megger testing, VOC testing, thermal imaging, and other commissioning tests, as required.
  • Assist with the project quality assurance/quality control process including the organization and maintenance of documentation.
  • Provide general support to Operations team including resolution of issues identified on-site, including correspondence with Engineer-of-Record, Client, and/or Supplier for authorization to approve solution to the issue.
  • Provide technical support during site construction and commissioning.
  • Interface with and provide support to (when necessary) Sterling and Wilson colleagues off-site including the Operations Project Manager and Engineering Project Manager.
  • Abide by ALL Sterling and Wilson safety requirements and protocols.
  • Interface with on-site construction personnel (including Subcontractors) as required by on-site Construction Manager.
  • Support the resolution of punch list items, ensuring timely completion.
  • Participate in on-site safety reviews, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety training.
  • Manage the site drawing package including revision logs and redlining of drawings necessary for the completion of As-Built drawings.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work on construction sites 100% of time.
  • Knowledge of PV solar construction.
  • Strong communications skills to be able to talk with team and explain complex issues.
  • Critical thinking – to use logic to resolve issues and develop more efficient systems.
  • Diagnostic abilities – diagnose problems with existing equipment and find solutions.
  • Analytical thinking – to analyze systems and manage technical tasks.
  • Problem-solving skills – to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Conduct business in a professional, responsible, and collaborative manner consistent with Company values.
  • Technology savvy with advanced computer skills. A demonstrated ability with MS Office, MS Windows.
  • Basic understanding of engineering concepts.
  • Ability to contribute to an amicable team working environment.

Education and Experience

  • BS Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or Other), or construction management. Minimum of associate’s degree in engineering relevant to the construction industry,
  • Technical certifications helpful.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in a construction environment, PV solar preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles.
  • Maintain OSHA 30 certificate
