Facebook is seeking a highly motivated, team player to lead an invigorating, inspiring team of attorneys who are passionate about the intersection of IP and future technologies.
You will work with team members and stakeholders to help manage significant and complex IP-related matters and advise internal teams on IP risk.
The position will cover a wide range of areas in IP, including strategy and counseling, open source and patent licensing, technology transactions, standards organizations, and M&A.
You must have the ability to lead others in solving problems and work proactively with various teams across the organization including Legal, Product, and Engineering.

This is a full-time position and will report directly to the Head of Patents, Licensing and Open Source.
Associate General Counsel, Head of Open Source & Licensing Responsibilities
Manage a team of attorneys to support a large, innovative and growing business
Develop and deploy a strategy to protect Facebook’s ability to innovate and grow
and allocate team resources accordingly
Oversee programs for open source licensing, compliance, and diligence
Manage participation in standards setting organizations
Advise on IP issues in M&A and other transactions
Provide advice and negotiate IP terms in technology transactions and licensing
Collaborate and interface with engineers and project managers on technical issues and questions
Minimum Qualifications
JD degree (or foreign equivalent) with membership in at least one US state bar
10+ years of legal experience
Experience building and managing teams
Interpersonal, leadership and team development skills
Experience in one or more of the following: technology transactions, licensing and open source, handling of third party IP-related demands
Familiarity with computer science, electrical engineering or information retrieval, either through undergraduate or industry experience
Interest in and aptitude for understanding complex software and hardware engineering products, practices and systems
Preferred Qualifications
In-house experience, especially technology transactions and M&A experience as an IP specialist
Standards organization experience
Computer science, engineering or another technical field (or equivalent experience)
Experience with patent litigation and licensing
