In this role, you will provide onsite consultative assistance to employers, with emphasis being placed on small businesses in high hazard fixed industries and the construction industry. You will also be a part of full-service consultation teams, providing complex evaluations of employer safety and health programs and recommending hazard controls to prevent injuries and illnesses. In addition, you will develop and provide training on specific safety and health topics and mentor other Industrial Hygiene, Safety and Risk Management Specialists in the region.If selected for this position you will analyze employer’s accident records, industrial insurance data and safety and health inspection/consultation histories to determine what additional services and or programs need to be recommended to employers. If this sounds like the right fit for you, then bring your talent to our team by applying now!Duties**Some of what you’ll do:*** Perform complex, safety and health surveys and audits to identify, evaluate and recommend controls for occupational health hazards, including chemical, biological and physical.* Advise employers of methods to eliminate unsafe work practices, including ergonomic hazards.* Use industrial hygiene sampling equipment and techniques for analysis and measurement of noise, non-ionizing radiation, vibration, temperatures, and chemical exposure for comparison with exposure limits.* Perform opening conferences with employer and employee representatives. Conduct walk around assessments of work sites, take field notes, photos and video, and make observations.* Conduct interviews; review safety data sheets, written safety programs, reports, and records provided by employer and employee representatives.* Prepare and calibrate industrial hygiene sampling equipment for use.* Determine employers’ compliance and non-compliance with safety and health standards and take appropriate actions consistent with laws, standards, manuals, and policies.* Critically evaluate use of protective methods, personal protective equipment, safe work practices, and engineering controls.* Prepare and present verbal and written reports of investigations.* Make suggestions for abatement and provide materials to assist with compliance. Follow up on progress and effectiveness of changes instituted.* Answer questions from the public regarding health hazards and applicable standards on the phone and in person.Qualifications**Required Qualifications:*** A Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or related science.**AND*** 3 years of experience as an industrial hygienist. A Masters’ degree in industrial hygiene from an accredited university may substitute for one year of experience. The years of industrial hygiene experience must include experience in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and management of occupational health hazards (chemical, physical & biological).* Valid Driver’s License.**Desired Qualifications:*** Masters’ degree in industrial hygiene.* Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.* Detection of Occupational Health Hazards: Skilled in sampling and direct measuring techniques for chemical, biological and physical occupational health hazards. (Three years of experience).* Knowledge of Safety and Health Rules and Regulations; thorough understanding of both WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration) and OSHA (federal government’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration) rules and regulations. Understands and is able to explain to customers what their businesses must do to comply with these regulations. (Three years of experience).* Experience enforcing governmental laws, rules and regulations, and initiates enforcement actions in such a way that the public perceives as fair, objective and reasonable. (Three years of Experience.)* Three years of experience conducting training and delivering presentations to large groups.**This position is bilingual preferred, but not required. Bilingual persons of all languages are encouraged to apply. Bilingual jobs include a 5% salary increase for dual language responsibilities.**Within the Department of Labor and Industries, conditional to hazard exposure: Industrial Hygienists and Safety & Health Specialists are paid base salary plus four (4) ranges for each hour they are required to use personal protective equipment (excluding hard hat, boots, hearing and eye protection) to enter a hazardous workspace to inspect or investigate a fatality or serious incident that still has the hazard present and is unsecured.Supplemental Information**_Application Process: _**The top candidates will be contacted directly to interview for this position.
