Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Patient Services Coordinator II (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in Issaquah Swedish Cancer Institute at Swedish First Hill in Issaquah, WA.The Patient Services Coordinator II provides support and clinic coordination of multiple patient care services as well as patient orientation for the Swedish Cancer Institute on multiple campuses, exercising independence in the planning and accomplishment of a wide spectrum of clerical duties. Responsibilities include: scheduling of new patients, follow-up clinic appointments, subsequent treatments, and requested diagnostic tests, acquiring of insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations, preparing and maintaining the patient’s medical record, reconciling billing issues, answering multiple phone lines and triaging phone calls. Excellent communication and problem solving skills around patient care and clinic matters are vital. Exceptional compassion, sensitivity, and emotional stability are necessary with the Oncology population. As a member of the physician practice team, this position acts as a professional liaison with patients, families, other departments, and third party payers. This position also acts as an informational resource regarding oncology support services available at the Swedish Cancer Institute. This individual performs responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner. This individual will partner in the orientation and training of new staff. These responsibilities are often carried out simultaneously with frequent interruption. In addition, this job may include other special project assignments as directed. All duties accomplished with an exceptional customer service approach (AIDET Level II) to optimize the Oncology patient’s experience in the Cancer Institute.In this position you will:.* Schedules appointments as directed. Makes schedule adjustments as necessitated by the patient’s condition.* Coordinates clinic schedule to determine availability for appointments.* Uses SMC and SCI computer systems efficiently and effectively. Able to learn new computer applications as they evolve.* Coordinates with other departments involved in patient appointments and care, such as transportation and interpreter services.* Contacts patients regarding appointments or changes in appointments, as needed. May perform discharge follow-up phone calls, as necessary.* Schedules inpatient admissions when requested.* Acts as a courier between various departments for delivery and pick-up of confidential patient material.* Completes initial prospectus on newly referred patients and distributes to the appropriate individuals. Obtains pertinent records/films in preparation for first visit.Required qualifications for this position include:* H.S. Diploma or GED* Successful completion of Oncology administrative training within six months* 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred (i.e. physician’s office, scheduler, etc.)* Experienced in obtaining insurance verifications, referrals and authorizations* Medical Terminology Certification or successful completion of a Medical Terminology course within 6 months from date of hirePreferred qualification for this position include:* Associate’s degree with emphasis in Health Care or equivalent educ/experienceAbout the First Hill Campus.The 697-bed tertiary-care center on the Swedish/First Hill campus is the flagship of the Swedish health-care system. Swedish/First Hill has one of the most active and advanced birthing programs in Washington state and houses a Level II neonatal intensive-care unit. More surgeries are performed each year at Swedish/First Hill than at any other facility in the region; volumes include more total joint replacements than any other medical center in the state.
