Summary of Functions:

The Purchasing Specialist will work under the supervision of the Director of Purchasing.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as liaison between pharmacy goods and services providers (pharmaceutical) and pharmacies regarding pharmaceutical pricing, availability and ordering.
  • Implement and maintain purchasing guidelines to maximize inventory management and compliance with vendor and distributor contracts.
  • Coordinate and communicate frequently with management and pharmacy locations to ensure implementation and maintenance of vendor contracts and standardized purchasing programs.
  • Analyze markets to determine vendor sources and product availability and performs other research as directed.
  • Complete purchasing reports and analysis as per directions while identifying cost-savings opportunities.
  • Responsible for account set-up for new pharmacy locations, in coordination with Implementation Team and communication of pharmacy roster information with internal and external partners.
  • Assists with the planning and roll-out of immunization programs.
  • Coordinates the management of vendor and wholesaler recall events.
  • Provide support on REMS audits, QRA audits and “Know Your Consumer” activities
  • Serve as the department subject matter expert for SharePoint functionality.
  • Responsible for logistics coordination for all locations, including cold chain and shipping supplies, courier relationships, best practice development and implementation, and performance management.
  • In conjunction with corporate compliance team, manage vendor relationships as it pertains to DSCSA, UPS-800, hazardous waste, and medical waste requirements.

Educational or Skills Requirements:  

  • Associate degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience, such as two to three years’ experience in pharmaceutical supply chain management/sourcing/sales, is preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) license preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and Sharepoint.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks/responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy pricing, reimbursement models and contracts.
  • Renton office based preferred, but will consider remote for experienced candidates

Work Environment: 

  • Work areas may include: driving an automobile (including potentially difficult driving circumstances with regard to weather and traffic).  Inside locations; noise generated from telephones, computers/printers, and verbal communication, subject to many interruptions, pressure due to multiple demands, exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens, may be presented with emergency or crisis situations.
