The Avalara Global Technology team is looking for an experienced Scrum Master to promote quality, efficiency and collaboration within our environment.

The SCRUM MASTER will AvaTech/Avalara IT implementation of the SAFE Agile framework, lead the definition and execution of sprint rituals for all AvaTech/Avalara IT sprint teams and ensure collaboration and synchronization of work towards prioritized projects and epics.In this role you will be responsible for developing and managing sprint rituals (framework, processes and meetings).

You will increase AvaTech’s teams’ efficiency, challenge and motivate our scrum teams and the individual members thereof, and drive for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness (as measured by UAT and velocity).

You will also ensure the DoR (Definition of Ready) and the DoD (Definition of done) is being followed.Scrum Master Responsibilities (Duties):Guiding the team and organization on how to use SAFE Agile practices and values to increase velocity and delight customers.Removing impediments or guiding the team(s) to do so by engaging the right personnel or resources.Guiding the team(s) on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the SAFE Agile framework.Assessing the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of SAFE Agile maturity, at a pace that is sustainable for the team and organization.Building a trusting and safe environment where problems are raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, and with an emphasis on problem-solving and team growth.Driving the completion of work by coming along side team members to help and guide as needed.Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.Supporting and educating Business Analysts, Product Owners, and Product Managers to achieve ever increasing efficacyProviding all support to the team using a well-documented framework, consistent socialization of processes and vision, servant-style coaching, and leading by example.Scrum Master Requirements:5-years’ experience as a Scrum Master with 3 Years or more of hands on experience leading and implementing the SAFE Agile framework, as a Scrum Master, for a software development team that was diligently applying these principles and practices.Practical experience working in a hybrid Agile-Waterfall environment supporting both day-to-day development teams and ongoing senior leadership reporting.

This isn’t about migrating from Waterfall to Agile but leveraging both at the same time to fulfill broader company requirements.Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.Knowledge of various well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: Burndown technologies, Retrospective formats, bug-handling.Working knowledge of Salesforce and the Salesforce eco-systemApplicable working knowledge of the technologies used by the team
– Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), Slack, and Zoom.Scrum Master Preferred Qualifications:Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.Excellent communication and mentoring skills.About AvalaraAvalara helps businesses of all sizes achieve compliance with transactional taxes, including VAT, sales and use, excise, communications, and other tax types.
