Performshort range planning for the Area and participate in long range planning for the Operation to facilitate the transition from apolicy-focused environment to a client-focused culture.Direct the work of the Underwriters who are responsible for controlling the underwriting Individual business within corporate guidelines. Ensure the proper selection of risks by providing support to the Brokerage and Division Office underwriters in the development of sound and effective underwriting policies and practices and establishment of control to ensure cases are processed within these requirements. Monitor the issuance process to ensure effective service is being provided.Direct the overall service of Life, H&A and New Business. Ensure policyowner, wholesaler, and general agent requests are beinghandled efficiently and within established quality and time service requirements. Ensure efficient administrative practices andstandards are in place and functioning effectively to contribute to repeat sales, wholesaler loyalty and high policyholder persistency. Maintain a current knowledge of new business trends and a proactive posture in the insurance industry with regard to existing and emerging technologies in systems and processes to identify and develop new service and new business approaches and methods.Ensure the effective management of risks with all reinsurance companies. Participate in negotiations with various reinsuranceorganizations to meet the Companies’ existing and projected business. Work closely with Risk Selection Director and CorporateActuarial on the development of the contract and financial arrangements.Direct various programs for the underwriting staff regarding the changing medical and surgical developments and their effects onmortality/morbidity. Make appropriate adjustments in underwriting policies, procedures and business plans.Work closely with service, sales, actuarial and Company Medical Directors to assure the use of coordinated practices andprocedures to leverage successes across the business units. Assist with product development, and maintain uniformity of standards for all underwriting functions and in contacts with other divisions including both Home Office and Field personnel.Develop new underwriting procedural manuals for the field and communicate changes/updates to the field offices, supplementaldistribution channels and internal department heads. Design training programs and underwriting seminars for both Division Offices and Brokerage Associates for routine training as well as continuing education seminars.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Home Office and Field management and outside contacts such as wholesalers, Third Party Marketers, reinsurers and policyholders to ensure support and attainment of are and Corporate goals and objectives. Inability to maintain these relationships could result in loss of significant business or reinsurance or damage to the Companies’ reputation.Serve as a member of various committees, task forces and special projects related to Underwriting and Risk Selection.This position requires extensive or prolonged typing/keyboarding.This position requires up to 25% travel, which may include flying and/or driving and some overnight stays.ABOUT YOU:You help promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within the department and the larger organization.
