Field Representative

SUMMARY

Coordinates raw product supply and procurement by performing the following duties personally and/or through subordinate supervisors. Your participation in the continuous improvement process is required, as you are a member of the leadership team at the facility. Activities desired in your role as a member of the leadership team are safety audits, quality, process improvement initiatives, employee training, and upgrading your employees and your own current skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes and adheres to company safety work rules and regulations.
  • Field inspection – Inspects, collects data and reports on potato fields progress and quality.
  • Retrieves field samples during the growing season and prior to harvest.
  • Schedules potato growers’ harvest and storage considering factors of quality, maturity, factory demand, and storability.
  • Collects and processes grower field records including seed history, GMO information, chemical application records, and chemical residue tests.
  • Purchases raw potatoes for factory as delegated by authority of Field Department Manager.
  • Inspects and monitors raw product grower storage facilities for quality and condition factors and changes. Provides backup for company storage supervisor as needed.
  • Raw production planning – Schedules and arranges delivery of raw potatoes from storage to factory.
  • Communicates any problems or changes in production or quality to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
  • Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and monthly informational meetings.
  • Understands and adheres to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation.
  • Keeps area clean and orderly in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
  • Helps to build and promote a strong “Teamwork” environment in each individual work group, the Factory, and the Company.
  • Participates in continuous improvement process.

REPRESENTATION

  • Must provide professional representation of McCain mission and values both inside and outside the organization.
  • Must adhere to the McCain Code of Conduct

SCOPE OF AUTHORITY

  • Has authority to negotiate potato purchased with potato growers under the direction and in consultation with the Field Department Manager.
  • Approves raw product and raw product mixes for storage dispositioning and for staging raw product to the plant.
  • Authority to approve and reject potatoes being delivered from the field or storage for reasons identified in potato contracts with Field Department Managers consent
  • Authority to enforce McCain policies and procedures.
  • Responsibility to monitor work areas, watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.
  • Authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of themselves, other employees, products, and equipment
  • Responsibility of maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced
  • Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Agriculture or related field from four-year college or university; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Computer Skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet).

  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Able to obtain a bond.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be willing to work flexible hour schedules including long hours particularly during harvest periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
