Salary$19.22 – $22.37 HourlyLocation Kirkland, WAKirkland, WAClosing date and timeContinuousDepartmentParks and Community ServicesMinimum Salary: $19.22 per hourMaximum Salary: $22.37 per hourOpen Date: 3/5/21  Close Date: 7/1/21.  (Open to current employees and the general public)City of Kirkland 2021 Aquatics Program Open Positions   (Also see our postings for Lifeguards/Instructors and Program Supervisors)Senior Lifeguards provide effective knowledge and skillful lifeguarding and aquatic program support at City public beaches and/or pool and act as a replacement for the Aquatic Program Supervisor in his or her absence.  As support to the City Aquatic Program, Senior Guards perform a variety of duties such as lifeguarding, first aid, and assists in program development and training and leadership of staff.  A Senior Guard is supervised by an Aquatic Program Supervisor in the absence of the Recreation Coordinator.Hours of WorkEmployees work a flexible schedule which includes early morning, daytime, evening hours, and weekends June-September. Work schedule and needs may fluctuate during periods of low attendance and poor weather days.LocationsSenior Lifeguards with experience will be able to work at our three waterfront locations, in addition to the Peter Kirk Pool.  Additional training provided to become a Senior Beach Lifeguard.  Our three waterfront beaches are Waverly Beach, Houghton Beach and Juanita Beach.Special NoteAPPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT THEIR PROFILES AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE AS SCREENING, INTERVIEWING, AND HIRING DECISIONS WILL BE MADE THROUGHOUT THE RECRUITMENT PERIOD, UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ALL VACANCIES ARE FILLED.Minimum Qualifications A current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification is required on or before the first day of employment. Minimum of two seasons of aquatics experience Minimum 18 years of age. Must be able to pass the aquatics swim test Must successfully complete a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act. Working Conditions & Physical ActivitiesWork is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions during the summer months at city-owned pool and beaches. Employee works a flexible schedule which may include early mornings, evening hours and weekends. On occasion, must be able to provide own transportation between work sites. Hearing and speaking to exchange information, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office machines and pool maintenance equipment.  Seeing to read and analyze chemical tests, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, kneeling or crouching and bending at the waist to conduct tests, lift patrons and/or facility materials of 50 lbs.
