Our staff not only enjoys outstanding benefits and professional growth opportunities, but also an environment noted for diversity, community involvement, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits, and natural beauty.The Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME (100% FTE, 40-HOURS PER WEEK), DAY SHIFT, CODING EDUCATION MANAGER.Under the general guidance of the Director of Clinical Coding and Documentation, the Coding Education Manager is responsible for implementing the mission and goals of Enterprise Records and Health Information, and incorporating a “patients are first” service culture.

The Coding Education Manager is responsible for managing the work of the Coding Education Analysts who perform daily activities related to coding education, training and auditing by analyzing the medical record to verify the correct assignment of abstract Diagnosis Related Group (DRG), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) facility and/or professional fee coding and billing, and/or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes to ensure correct code assignment and optimal reimbursement in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Monitor for regulatory changes, develop and implement auditing and monitoring plans, engage and participate in the creation and delivery of educational materials.RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops, implements and maintains role specific training for ERHI Coding staff; including effective monitoring, auditing and risk assessment activities with a formalized Coding quality assurance program to ensure coding quality standards are met through scheduled and focused audits.Monitors coding quality to ensure goals are achieved, and work with Coding Managers, Coding Supervisors and Coding Education Analyst team to create and implement education, training and auditing plans when quality standards are not met.Performs interviews, check references, and hiring staff.Monitors staff performance, conduct annual performance evaluations and make recommendations for disciplinary action, as appropriate.Coordinates and participates in department orientation and training of new staff to their specific job responsibilities.Monitors remote staff to ensure performance targets are met and efficient work patterns are maintained.

Addresses and corrects any deviations where identified and necessary.

Assess staff for fit and appropriateness to work remotely.Provide expert coding content knowledge to UW Medicine staff and other key stakeholders.

Coordinate with, and provide guidance to, Compliance, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Utilization Management, Clinical Resource Management, Revenue Integrity, Charge Master Operations and Patient Financial Services on matters involving coding and/or billing compliance related issues.Collaborates with medical staff leadership, nursing leadership, Clinical Documentation Improvement leadership, Utilization Management leadership and other department leaders to facilitate problem solving, identification of process improvements and workflow redesign related to coding workflows and activities.Assists in the development, preparation and maintained of reports regarding operational activities for use in budgeting, planning, coordinating, evaluating and supervising.Provides Coding leadership in organizational meeting and/or committee functions.Performs other duties assigned, including special projects, as needed.REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in a Health Sciences discipline, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience;Five years coding experience or equivalent education/experience, with increasingly responsible related experience in coding auditing, analysis, education and training;Three years supervisory experience;Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist
– Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC);Extensive knowledge of DRG, ICD, CPT and/or HCPCS coding principles and guidelines;Proficient with MS Office suite.Basic Knowledge of Office 365.DESIRED:Experience in an academic healthcare environment.Experience and proficiency with Epic and/or Cerner products.Experience with 3M encoderApplicants considered for this position will be required to disclose if they are the subject of any substantiated findings or current investigations related to sexual misconduct at their current employment and past employment.
