SummaryKing County Road Services Division, Engineering Section is looking for a Survey Engineer (Engineer 2) to join our dynamic team!

Our successful candidate will serve in andOversee survey crew activities.

This position is also responsible for conducting preliminary surveys such as roads, flood control projects, and building sites.

If you have an understanding of civil engineering and have a passion for working with a team that encourages and embraces diversity, come work with us!Scope of Job Duties:To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to:* Overseesurvey crew activities; direct the survey crew on procedures for the day.* Conduct various types of surveys including GPS, property, legal, boundary, topographic, hydrographic, control and construction surveys.* Layout centerline alignment staking, rights-of-way and slope easement staking, slope staking, blue tops, bridge control, and reference points for related construction layout.* Use AutoCAD software to produce detailed survey maps for use in engineering design, contract documents, land division, court exhibits, survey records.* AutoCAD quality control.* Management of drafting deadlines, schedules, and drafting Que.* Updating drafting protocols, standards, technical updates and training staff on autoCAD updates.* Transfer field data to office computers, edit files and construct digital terrain modelsfor office staff review and complete survey map.* Perform heavy labor tasks such as loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, digging holes, setting monuments and cases, cutting brush and/or trees, pounding wooden hubs and rebar into the ground or pavement* Conduct preliminary surveys such as roads, flood control projects, building sites, setting property corners, and perform geodetic control surveys.* Operate Global Positioning Systems (GPS), total stations, electronic data collectors, digital theomats, theodolites, levels and other complex survey instruments.* Serve as Party Chief in accordance with the Survey unit standard procedures* Calibrate and adjust total stations, digital theomats, theodolites, levels and other survey equipment.* Read and interpret design plans and drawings of roads and structures.

Perform all necessary field computations (i.e.

traverses, intersection details, grade lines, elevation locations, triangulation, etc.) to accomplish field surveys on assigned projectsWe are looking for candidates who:* Are familiar with survey, roadway feature maintenance and construction practices, standards and design principals;* Have the abilityto be a strong and effective people leader who can have crucial conversations and is knowledgeable of project management principles;* Is knowledgeable ofhydrology and hydraulic design of storm water systems;* Have experience in effectively working with a team that contributes to a work environment that embraces and encourages diversity in its workforce and where differences are valued;* Can manage and prioritize a high volume of diverse projects and multiple competing tasks with a strong attention to detail;* Are skilledin problem solving and can effectively manage conflict;* Are able tohandle politically sensitive issues with grace;* Are proficient in the use the Microsoft Office(Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Project) applications in yourdaily work, and skill using AutoCADD, Civil3D, HEC-RAS, MGS Flood, GPS and GIS programs.Additional Requirements* A valid Washington State drivers license.Supplemental Information* The typical work schedule for this position is 7:30 am
– 4:00 pm, Monday
– Friday.

This position is overtime eligible.* This position is represented by Professional Technical Employees Local 17.* This recruitment may be used to fill vacancies for up to 6 months.

Including special duty assignments and TLT opportunities.TEMPORARY TELECOMMUTING REQUIREMENTThe work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’stelecommuting mandate.

It is possible that the work will be primarily performed remotely on an ongoing basis after January 8, 2021.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.

Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
