Reports to Senior Director, U.S. Regional Communications & Community Engagement Leader Role: This Associate Director will lead Seattle-based communications for Bristol-Myers Squibb. The company has a significant Commercial, R&D, and Manufacturing presence in the greater Seattle area. We have an interest in growing awareness in the region of how we are transforming patients’ lives through science. This role will encompass providing strategic-communications support for our Seattle site as well as proactive outreach to local and regional media, and identifying/coordinating external-engagement opportunities. This individual will manage BMS communications priorities in the region, working in collaboration with matrix partners including site leadership, state government affairs, advocacy, and enterprise media relations. The Seattle-based role also will support key company reputation initiatives. Responsibilities: Develop and implement an integrated external communications plan for the Seattle region that aligns with an overarching enterprise communications strategy driven by our enterprise Reputation team. Establish and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders such as local media, regional local governments (in partnership and alignment with State Government Affairs) and industry organizations, Ensure the company narrative is consistently shared and amplified with key stakeholders. Identify opportunities to showcase R&D initiatives, reputation campaigns and communication activities via sites within region. Collaborate on this closely with Science team. Develop and manage a network of subject matter experts at R&ED sites within region to gain insight into the emerging innovation and talent that can be highlighted as part of storytelling and thought-leadership opportunities. Partner with the US Policy Comms and State Govt Affairs teams to map out a cohesive approach for relationship building with the state government bodies and local media. Collaborate to support local policy campaigns. Leverage relationships with media throughout the Pacific Northwest and Mountain West in priority markets to continue highlighting company work in the designated geographic region. Partner with site leader to support key site events e.g. Leadership Team member visits, lab tour for key external stakeholders such as media and government officials. Partner with HR and site leaders to support strategic employee engagement that aligns with the culture of the site and helps support local community engagement and reputation. Requirements: 7 years professional experience in Communications, with a focus on scientifically-driven or bio-pharmaceuticals communications Strong business acumen skills, ability to think strategically in a creative and innovative manner Customer/patient-focused mindset, with excellent listening and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaborate within a matrixed organization Experience in the development and implementation of integrated communications Strong knowledge of and experience working in the Seattle media market; broader regional media experience a plus
