Within the Cell Therapy Development and Operations (CTDO) division, the Pipeline and Product Lifecycle Strategy (PPLS) department focuses on the cell therapy pipeline as well as shaping product strategy throughout the lifecycle of a cell therapy asset.

The Associate Director, Portfolio and Project Management plays an important role in organizing, managing, and communicating the portfolio of projects aligned to the CTDO goals and objectives, as well as providing project management skills and leadership.

In partnership with other PMO teams and cross-function leaders, the Associate Director drives the development of an integrated project & portfolio management (PPM) process to achieve asset goals.

Core responsibilities include collaborating with asset teams to ensure data connectivity and standards alignment, implementing standards and processes, driving project management best practices, and developing analytics in partnership with our Business Insights and Analytic (BIA) colleagues to evaluate the asset portfolio and provide regular reports to leadership and functions.

As a key member of the PPLS PMO, this position will be responsible for staff management and is expected to provide project management on high-profile, critical projects.

The Associate Director will be on the PMO leadership team, and will be responsible for using and promoting CTDO PMO best practices, tools and templates.

The successful candidate will support development of a robust CTDO Project Management Office (PMO): share ideas, tools, best practices, training, lessons learned, establish core competencies, conduct peer reviews of project management deliverables, etc.

Key business processes include, but not limited to, leading strategic project planning and goal setting, project prioritization and portfolio alignment, project execution, project documentation and archival, and process improvement, standards development, resource modeling and metrics.

The successful candidate will be a demonstrated leader with the breadth of professional experience and the drive to work with both internal and external partners to define and implement effective project management solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:Develop and drive an integrated asset PMO & portfolio strategy, including processes for prioritization, resource allocation, and budget management.Champion innovative project management tools to support CTDO asset programs; optimize and define standardized process for gathering asset information for broader portfolio value.Set expectations, metrics, and goals to drive effective asset project and portfolio management.Identify and manage PMO KPIs; identify opportunities for continuous improvement.Implement a harmonized asset PMO structure that is connected with cross-functional PMO teamsCollaborate effectively with other portfolio managers in CTDO organization to align on the structure and processes enabling the portfolio management system.Collaborate effectively with various matrix team leaders and project managers (within and outside of PPLS) to ensure project portfolio is up to date with one single source of truth.Mentor and train teams in articulating strategy, project management approaches, methods, and key successes.Establish and maintain portfolio visualization tools and dashboards to provide visibility to project health in collaboration BIA for CTDO asset projects.Identify opportunities to enhance portfolio management and implement appropriate industry best practice portfolio management tools and visualization tools (such as Tableau) and methodologies.Communicate readouts to senior leadership, functions, teams, and stakeholders about project plans, portfolio analytics, and PMO developments.

Competencies & ExperiencesUndergraduate (BA/BS) degree required; seeking balanced combination of scientific/technical and business acumen.10+ years of direct professional experience in project management in life sciences, biopharmaceuticals; including experiences in project portfolio development, management and operations.Strong understanding of biopharma drug development, commercialization process, project management, and portfolio management; Cell Therapy experiencepreferred.PMP certification is desirable and preferred.Proficiency with related software tools such as: MS Project, Project Online, SmartSheets, and TableauExtensive experience in project managing matrix program teams.Expert in project management methodologies, tools and deliverables including scope statements, project scheduling, risk management and change control.Highly effective written and verbal communications skills; strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to understand project details, but keep the overall “big picture” view of projects, priorities, and strategies.Strategic thinker with the ability to deal with complex and ambiguous environments and maintain a business-wide view across a variety of projects, work-streams and timeframes.Self-motivated, strong attention to detail, and results driven.Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment; collaborate effectivelyacross a portfolio of programs and multiple locations.Willingness to do what needs to be done in a dynamic environment.
