Leadership Development Institute Director – Camp Colman

YMCA of Greater Seattle

This is a Full-time position in Longbranch, WA posted April 16, 2021.

**Job Summary**
Coordinates and supervises overall operation of the Leadership Development Institute program at Camp Colman Resident Overnight Camp for teens.

Duties include program design, planning, and implementation of 2 week leadership training program for teens entering 9-11 grade in the fall.

Works as part of the Camp Colman Leadership Tem for summer camp and supports other areas of camp as needed and designated as well.
**The screening process of this job will begin on January 20th, 2021.**
**Responsibilities**
1.

Supervises a group of up to 16 teen leaders for 2-week long sessions.

Ensures that all are accounted for and safe at all times.
2.

Plans, schedules, and facilitates program activities that are developmentally appropriate and which promote camper skill and character development.
3.

Maintains safety and cleanliness standards.

Takes special note of individual camper/staff health needs or concerns on a daily basis.

Shares cleaning duties with fellow staff.
4.

Ensures that activities and trainings are planned and organized.
5.

Communicates personal or camper/staff needs to supervisor in a timely manner.
6.

Maintains equipment in sound and safe order.
7.

Attends meeting and trainings.
8.

Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, program and equipment inspection written documentation, and emergencies.
9.

Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
1.

18 years of age or older.
2.

Current state approved first aid certification.
3.

Current state approved CPR certification.
4.

One or more years of college preferred.

Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
5.

Current Wilderness First Responder strongly preferred.

Documented knowledge of challenge courses and current safety standards and practices.
6.

Demonstrate working knowledge of belaying, rappelling, knots, and rescue techniques.
7.

Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting.
8.

Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS IF THE POSITION REQUIRES DRIVING
+ Minimum 21 years old
+ Current Driver’s License with a minimum of 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.
+ Maximum of one minor violation.
