Microbiology Supervisor, Pendleton (4193) Pendleton

Interpath Laboratory

This is a Full-time position in Tri-Cities, WA posted April 23, 2021.

This position is responsible for the operation of the clinical microbiology, immunology and automated molecular testing area of the laboratory at our core facility.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Technical supervision
    1. Responds to inside and outside questions of a technical nature which apply to testing within the division. This will require the maintenance of a broad knowledge range of technical subjects.
    2. Takes initiative as it relates to implementation of new tests and instrumentation.
    3. Effectively communicates with team and equipment vendors to minimize downtime and continued quality operation of equipment in the microbiology and molecular immunology division.
    4. Responsibly calibrates, operates, troubleshoots and maintains division equipment.
    5. Maintains practical knowledge of clinical microbiology, immunology and automated molecular department with ability to fill in infrequently as required. 
  1. Team supervision
    1. Determines optimal FTEs within the division, recommending changes to the Laboratory General Manager as necessary.
    2. Monitors the technical competencies of each team member within the division and provides guidance regarding career development (e.g., technical assistants becoming certified as MLT/MT).
    3. Serves as a collaborative leader who effectively balances the needs of the company and team.
    4. Effectively engages in professional growth and performance management of assigned team members within the division. This includes, but is not limited to facilitating mentorships and learning and development opportunities.
    5. Manages the monthly schedule for the division, approves timecards and leave requests within the division.
    6. Maintains compliance with all policies, protocols and procedures.
    7. Oversees and participates in team training and educational opportunities; identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions, and reports mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials
    8. Along with the Laboratory General Manager, actively participates in the recruiting, hiring and disciplinary action of the division team.

  2. Quality assurance and compliance
    1. Oversees preparation for inspections and accreditation processes within the division.
    2. Ensures annual review by all leads of applicable CAP checklists.
    3. Develops and tracks quality indicators for assigned division and oversees all process improvement projects.
    4. Work with leads to ensure initial, 6-month and annual training and competencies are completed and documented.
  3. Consistently maintains Interpath’s corporate culture and commitment to quality.
  4. Understands and adheres to HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations to assure patient confidentiality.
  5. Leads initiatives to bring on new technologies and procedures utilizing department staff and other departments as required.
  6. Assist Laboratory General Manager with budget development and management.

Other duties may be assigned based upon evolving needs of the organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to delegate tasks and functions appropriately
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products, use of multiple databases,

– 5+ years’ experience working in Microbiology department in a clinical laboratory.
– Demonstrated success in a leadership and/or supervisory position.
– Medical Technologist – Bachelor’s degree in a certified MT program
– Licensure/Certification: ASCP or NCA preferred, other national certifications considered

General Office work; prolonged sitting, occasional stooping, reaching, climbing and bending

 

Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

 

Manual dexterity for typing, 10-key work, and telephone use.

 

Driving in all types of conditions, including heavily populated areas, freeway, and rural traffic, hours of darkness, and inclement weather.
